Edmund Harriss

Edmund Harriss is a University or Arkansas mathematics professor that used the Golden Ratio to create a beautiful fractal curve that no one had ever drawn before.

You may be familiar with the spiral that can be created in the framework of Golden Rectangles. It’s related to the Fibonacci sequence, a pattern found in the leaf arrangements of plants, the patterns of florets in flowers, the bracts of pine cones, the scales of pineapples, and in other places throughout nature.

With some wonderfully innovative thinking Edmund Harriss cut the Golden Rectangles in a whole new way that spawned a set of exquisite spirals.

An article about this appeared in The Guardian. You can keep up with the mathematical and artistic work of Professor Harriss on his website where you will find access to his blog called Maxwell’s Demon.
